Fifth grade is an important year when it comes to your child’s development as a reader and a student. This year, your child will wrap up his or her experience as an elementary student and get ready to take the leap into the more rigorous world of middle school.

To prepare for this transition successfully, your child will need to build on the reading and comprehension skills he or she has already developed, and learn to read and think in more nuancedways. Fifth graders are also expected to take on more responsibility and independence in all of their schoolwork, including reading assignments.
