Each year the Institute provides great experiences with great books and teaches the right reading skills to students of all ages across the United States. Since 1970, three million students have participated in the Institute’s reading programs.  These programs give students the skills they need to succeed in school and develop a love of books and reading that lasts a lifetime.

The Institute of Reading Development has become a nationwide leader in reading instruction through its partnerships with over 100 colleges, universities, and other non-profit organizations.  Educational partnerships allow the Institute to provide valuable reading programs to families in many communities. Here are just a few of our educational partners:

Reading has had a lasting, positive impact on John Boyd, our Director of Instruction. John began teaching reading classes for the Institute of Reading Development in 1991. Since then, he has been responsible for hiring and training teachers to bring the Institute’s unique style of inspiring instruction to the students in all of our programs. John’s many years of teaching and supervision have shown him what kids really need to succeed with reading.
