Help Your Child Become a Strong, Fluent Reader

In this fun 8-week program, your child will improve fluency and comprehension, build essential long-word decoding skills, and learn new vocabulary. Your child’s love of reading and confidence will grow, providing lots of motivation to keep reading for enjoyment.

The Reading Skills Your Child Needs to Learn in 3rd Grade and Why They’re Important

Fluency is the ability to read naturally and smoothly, without having to stop to sound out words. Achieving fluency is a milestone kids reach by developing strong decoding skills and reading a lot. 3rd graders who can read fluently have stronger comprehension. This helps them as they read third-grade books, which are longer, more difficult, and filled with complex sentences.

In our 3rd grade program, your child will get lots of valuable fluency practice in great books. Fluent readers don’t need to spend much time figuring out individual words or piecing sentences together, so they can focus on meaning in the books they read.

Comprehension – the ability to understand what you read – is the goal of reading. 3rd graders with good comprehension can visualize the characters and setting, identify with characters and how they feel, and anticipate what will happen in stories. They develop the ability to put stories into their own words, retelling them in more detail and expressing a point of view.

In our 3rd grade program, students build stronger comprehension which makes reading fun and enjoyable. This will motivate your child to keep reading and give him or her a big boost in all subjects at school.

By 3rd grade, most children have already mastered first- and second-grade phonics. As they encounter harder words in their third-grade assignments, they need new strategies for breaking down longer words into parts – including prefixes, suffixes, and syllables – in order to read them.

In our 3rd grade program, your child will learn skills and strategies to read long words with confidence and ease. He or she will feel a real sense of accomplishment and motivation to read even more.

Knowing the meaning of words and how they are used is essential for students’ full understanding of what they read. 3rd graders can build new vocabulary through frequent instruction and practice, and by reading for pleasure. Reading a lot in wonderful books is a great way to pick up additional words.

In our 3rd grade program, students expand their vocabulary during interactive online lessons and learn new words every week from the program books. This gives them a big vocabulary boost. A rich working vocabulary will help your child get the most out of everything he or she reads.

3rd grade is full of challenges when it comes to reading. Developing a positive attitude toward reading and a love of books supports children and motivates them to read more often.

When your child builds new skills and has successful reading experiences in the 3rd grade program, he or she will find reading easier and more enjoyable. Your child’s enthusiasm for reading will grow, and he or she will want to read more for enjoyment. As your child reads more, he or she will continue to become a stronger and stronger reader, developing a habit of reading for pleasure that leads to a lifetime of academic and personal benefits.
