The Early Reading Skills Your Child Needs to Learn and Why They’re Important
Phonics instruction teaches kids the relationship between letters and the sounds they stand for. It is at the heart of how children learn to read. In kindergarten, students learn to match letters and their sounds, and begin blending these sounds together in order to read words.
When your child develops early phonics skills in our program, he or she will have a big head start on learning to read. Over time and with practice, your child will feel a real sense of accomplishment and gain confidence and excitement about reading.

Sight words are the most common words kids encounter while reading, such as is, has, and the. Kids can learn to read these as whole words, rather than sounding them out. Many of these words have irregular spelling patterns or require advanced phonics, so it is much easier for young readers to learn how to recognize them by sight.
In our program, your child will learn some of the most common sight words found in books for beginners. The more sight words your child knows, the fewer words he or she will have to sound out. This means that learning to read will be faster, easier, and more enjoyable.

As 4-year-olds and kindergartners develop early reading skills, they need practice using them to read short words and simple sentences. Lots of repetition and reinforcement gives them the confidence to keep building additional skills.
In our program, your child will get plenty of practice in great phonics readers and short, decodable online stories. This practice supports the phonics skills students are learning, with words that beginning readers are able to sound out. Once your child experiences the thrill of reading successfully, he or she will want to do it again and again.

Learning how to read is a big challenge. Developing a positive attitude toward reading and a love of books supports children and encourages them to keep going.
Our program will help your child engage with stories as he or she listens to wonderful picture books read aloud. Having this experience builds kids’ listening comprehension, teaches them how stories work, and gets them really excited and motivated to learn how to read for themselves. Build a love of reading early on will have a lasting impact on your child, both academically and personally.
